Manchester United have made an approach for RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano. United have been shaky at the back all season, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to strengthen his defence at the next available opportunity.
Frenchman Upamecano is contracted with Leipzig until 2023, meaning the German club are under no pressure to sell.
But Upamecano does have a €45million (£40m) release clause in his contract when he recently signed a new deal with his club in July which will appeal to the Red Devils.
BILD says Man United are one of three clubs who have registered their interest in signing Upamecano with Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Liverpool also interested.
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer recently spoke out about Upamecano, admitting he was excited to see him play against the Red Devils in the Champions League.
It is beloved that the Red Devils remain firm in their interest in the French player despite his poor display at their last meeting in the Champions League as Manchester United comfortably thrashed the German club 5-0 at Old Trafford.
The young defender who is known for his pace, strength and the ability to move the ball forward for passes has seen his stock rise with a series of good defensive work both in the Bundesliga and in the Champions League as Leipzig ended third in the German league and also reached the semi-final of the Champions League.
Liverpool have also been credited to making an approach for the defender due to their recent injury crisis at the back having lost Van Dijk, Joel Matip and recently Joe Gomez to their growing injury list.
It remains to be seen where the defender ends up playing as the search for a defender continues among the different clubs especially in the English Premier League.
