Manchester United are prepared as they plan to spend big on a new centre-half in the coming transfer windows. The Athletic reports United will target a new centre-back next summer and Dayot Upamecano, Raphael Varane and Kalidou Koulibaly are all on their shortlist.
The transfer window finally ended earlier this week and United secured four signings on deadline day, though none of them were a centre-back.
Calls from different quarters have emerged on the need for the club to get a new centre back.
The need for the club to strengthen their back-line intensified following last weekend’s 6-1 loss to Tottenham, with Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly all having poor starts to the season.
United are willing to wait until next summer before bringing in a new centre-back, in order to avoid the extra financial and other difficulties that the January window tends to bring.
Manchester United allowed Chris Smalling to finally leave Old Trafford on a permanent deal after going to Roma on a season long loan last season, Marcos Rojo has been deemed surplus to requirement and has therefore been looking for a way out of the club for more playing time.
Next season, the Red Devils will be looking forward to signing any of these defenders RB Leipzig’s Upamecano, Varane of Real Madrid and Napoli‘s Koulibaly will be their targets, though signing any of the trio would require Champions League qualification.
