Tottenham have confirmed the signing of Swansea City defender Joe Rodon. The defender becomes Tottenham’s seventh major signing of the summer transfer window as his move from Championship outfit Swansea City was made official on Friday evening.
Spurs had turned their attention to Rodon after being unlucky in their attempts to sign Milan Skriniar from Inter Milan and Chelsea‘s Antonio Rudiger, with the Blues reluctant to strengthen their London rivals.
The 22-year-old Wales international impressed for Steve Cooper’s side in the Championship and has now completed his move to north London.
The London Evening Standard reports the Championship side have been holding out for up to £15million for the Wales international after manager Steve Cooper made it clear the Swans would not budge on price.
They signed Rodon after having an opening bid of around £10m rejected, sources said.
However, negotiations continued up to until Friday before the two clubs finally agreed on a price, with Spurs willing to pay £11million up front before add-ons.
Rodon has signed a contract until 2025 and will wear the No 14 shirt at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Rodon, who faced England in a friendly at Wembley last week, had been a target for London rivals West Ham, who were put off by the price allowing Spurs to swoop.
The defender, who turns 23 next week, has featured five times for Swansea so far in 2020/21 and started all three of Wales’ matches during the international break against England, Republic of Ireland and Bulgaria to take his tally of caps to seven.
