Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has revealed his wish for experienced defender David Luiz to remain at the club. Luiz is out of contract at the end of the season and there are reports that he could move to another club.
The Brazilian international joined in the summer from rivals Chelsea and has become a stable presence in the defence. Arteta appears to be on-board with the defender and hopes that he remains part of the team ahead of next season.
Speaking to reporters the former Arsenal midfielder said that he was happy with the presence of the defender. “I’m really happy with David,” he said. “I want to keep him here with us. He’s been a key role model for me since I joined.
He also extolled Luiz qualities on the pitch. “I like what he produces on the pitch. I like his influence around the players and the club. I’d love to keep him.”
Luiz is thought to be in talks with the London club regarding a new deal and there are growing indications that he will commit to a new deal.
