Chelsea only ended their long search for a new goalkeeper last month but reports claim they’re still on the lookout for a new goalkeeper. Chelsea remain interested in a deal for Italian shot-stopper Gianluigi Donnarumma.
The Italian international is a product of AC Milan’s academy and rose to prominence as a precocious teenager.
He has been coveted by many of Europe’s top clubs and now Calciomercato, via the Evening Standard, claim the Blues were interested in him prior to signing Edouard Mendy.
The same report also states Chelsea haven’t ruled out moving for Donnarumma next summer when he will be out of contract with Milan.
They will only do so, though, if Frank Lampard remains unconvinced by his options at the goalkeeper. Chelsea were ready to move for the Italy international, but Edouard Mendy’s recent success has seen the trail go cold.
Mendy, a summer signing from Rennes, has been outstanding since kicking off his Premier League career this season.
As such, Chelsea have temporarily pulled back from contact with Donnarumma’s agent, Mino Raiola but are still much in the running for his signature.
Juventus, however, remain strongly interested in Donnarumma, and the possibility of taking him on a free transfer next summer.
