Chelsea have signed England left-back Ben Chilwell from Leicester for a fee in the region of £50m on a five-year deal.
Chelsea beat Leicester to a Champions League place on the final day of the 2019/20 Premier League season – pushing the Foxes into the Europa League – and have now convinced them to part with one of their prized assets.
The England international finally joins the Blues from Leicester City, the club where he started his professional career.
“I am delighted to be joining Chelsea at this very exciting time for the club. I’m looking forward to being a part of this young, dynamic squad led by Frank Lampard as we challenge for honours next season,” Chilwell told the club’s website.
“I can’t wait to get started and hopefully it won’t be long before we’re playing in front of the Chelsea fans at Stamford Bridge.”
Chilwell is one of the most established left-backs in the English Premier League having made over 115 appearances for Leicester City since his debut as an 18 years old in October 2015.
He is an English player who likes to attack from his left-back position, making assists as well as scoring goals. He is equally good at his defensive duties and he has ever being a key figure in Leicester’s City team helping them to win their last English League.
In the just-concluded season, he featured on 33 occasions for Brendan Rodgers’ side, scoring three goals for the foxes as they finished fifth behind Chelsea who won the final champions league spot on the final EPL day.
Chilwell joins other new Stamford Bridge arrivals Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner, who have already signed from Ajax and RB Leipzig, respectively.
