Manchester United maintain interest in Barcelona attacker Ousmane Dembele. Manchester United’s attempts to sign a top-class right winger have been boosted this week after it was revealed that one of their top targets could be made available for sale in the January transfer window.
It was widely publicised that manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s top target this summer was Jadon Sancho, but the club was unable to come close to the selling club’s £108 million asking price so they eventually turned their attention to other targets.
It was reported here early last month that Barcelona are keen to try to sell Dembele again in January and are looking at a figure of around £45 million. A new report from Mundo Deportivo yesterday confirmed that situation.
However, United would only try to land the 23-year-old on a loan until the end of the campaign.
That proved to be a stumbling block in recent negotiations between the two clubs as Barcelona, who are still counting the cost of the coronavirus pandemic on their finances, were only interested in a sale.
They wanted the money to help new manager Ronald Koeman rebuild his side. The Dutch boss has made no secret of his desire to bring in Memphis Depay from Lyon.
That position still remains but Barcelona will be looking to part away with him even if it means reducing their price tag this time around as the Frenchman’s contract expires in 2022.
