Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insists Tahith Chong still has a “bright future” ahead of him at Manchester United. The 20-year-old winger will spend the new campaign in Germany and could make his competitive debut when the Bundesliga starts next month.
Chong hopes his season-long spell at the German club will lead to him becoming a success in the Premier League as he hopes to follow in the footsteps of Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne by flourishing at Werder Bremen.
The likes of De Bruyne and Serge Gnabry spent a season with Bremen before moving on to bigger and better things, with the Belgium star going on to shine for Wolfsburg before returning to England while the latter is now impressing at Bayern Munich. Chong hopes his spell at Bremen will help advance his career, too.
Speaking to the club’s website, Solskjaer said: “We are pleased with the progress Tahith has made since he stepped up from the Academy and are looking forward to continuing to develop his talent.
“He has great potential; given his age, ability, and work ethic, we can see that he has a bright future at Manchester United.“
Chong played 12 times in all competitions for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side this season, with his most recent appearance coming in the Europa League last 16-second leg versus LASK at left-back.
He has teamed up with his new team-mates on Sunday at a training camp in Austria and took part in the first session.
